Principal’s Message—February 2010
It is always good to review where you are each and every day to strive and meet goals or aspirations each of us may have. Sometimes a problem will arise that we have so many goals and aspirations, we do not know which ones are the most important. When this happens, we can find ourselves floundering in no positive direction at all. With that in mind, let’s review the Mission of NDHS as approved by our Middle States evaluation last year:
The NDHS Mission Statement
The mission of NDHS is to afford all students a
quality education by maintaining, implementing and adhering to:
· Educational opportunities that will allow the student to reach his or her potential and pursue individual aspirations.
· Holistic development of each student.
· Practical integration of technology to classroom instruction.
· Cooperative partnership with parents and the community, to assist with the development of a positive and productive learning environment for all students.
With the above mission statement, it is the responsibility of all of us to see that we adhere to the process, and if we are not—pursue answers to questions which may arise. I hope that parents, students, community members, and staff feel that NDHS provides an atmosphere where all parties can work together to provide students with the best possible way for them to be successful.
North Dorchester High School is continuing to follow 3 simple rules: 1. Attend school daily and be on time for every class. 2. Complete all tasks and assessments to the best of our ability. 3. Respect yourself and others. Overall, NDHS students do very well with these 3 simple rules. They are not going to change anytime soon, so please encourage your child to follow them.
Volunteering—yes, we need your help! You have heard it before; in many organizations, 3-5 people do all the work, but you may have a group of 5O or more in the organization. What do the other 45 people do? Complex dynamics of the organization usually create an unlimited number of scenarios, which inhibit the productive nature of the organization. So what am I talking about? NDHS needs parent and community help. I hear it consistently from the Athletic Boosters and Music Boosters---they need help. If our winter sports teams do not do well in the concession stand---we’re in trouble financially. It is simple as volunteering for halftime of a game to prepare a hot dog. Every little bit helps. The music boosters are still waiting for a $300.00 bus reimbursement check from last year. Every penny and dollar helps.
It doesn’t stop with just the 2 Booster Clubs. The Senior Class Play, Prom Committee, Senior Picnic, Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes all need your support. One of my favorite aspects about the North Dorchester area is that we always find a way to provide kids with great educational, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities. In the present state of our economy and projected 2010 shortfalls—I am very concerned with next year’s planning of these important aspects of student life.
It is NOT a doom and gloom state of affairs at NDHS; so far, our overall benchmark scores are improving during the year. That’s what a great staff can provide within a school. Discipline data shows that NDHS is a safe and caring environment for students and staff. Our overall attendance is at a five year high in the positive direction.
Continue to stay in contact with the school regarding attendance and the overall educational success of your child. We are here for you.
Sincerely, W. David Bromwell, Proud Principal
NDHS and
NDMS have re-scheduled the 8th Grade Parent Information Night
from Monday 2-8-10 to Thursday 2-11-10, 6PM at NDHS

The Board of Education has approved a change in this year’s school calendar to use February 22 and 23 as regular instructional days rather than for professional development and parent conferences as originally planned. It is expected that teachers will contact the parents of students for whom a parent conference is warranted.
The change will allow us to provide much needed preparation time for students taking MSAs in early March and also help us recoup two snow days (we have used 4 of our 5 days that are built into the calendar as of today.) The teachers’ work calendar will be adjusted to account for the days missed thus far.
