PSAT Registration

Last year, all 10th graders took the PSAT Exam for free.  This was a preliminary version of the SAT Exam, which students take at least once or twice over their 11th and 12th grade school years for entrance into a 4-year college or university.   This year, students planning to attend a 4-year college or university should plan to take the PSAT again.  Students in the 11th grade take the exam to be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship.  This prestigious scholarship recognizes the top students in the nation.  Students are notified of this honor at the beginning of their senior year.  This year, the PSAT Exam will be given the morning of October 14th.  The test costs $13 and cash or checks (made payable to North Dorchester High School) need to be turned in to Mrs. Truitt NO LATER THAN September 25th.  The PSAT Exam measures critical reading, mathematical problem-solving, and writing skills.  ALL 10TH GRADERS WILL TEST FOR FREE!!!!

Preparation is Key

It is hard to believe that high school is half way over for my students.  This year we will begin preparing for life after high school.   It is my goal to meet individually with each student at least once to better understand the path they wish to follow after high school.  Below is a recommended list for this year for students planning to go to a 4-year college after high school.

Students going to a 4-year college/university:

* Take the PSAT

* Take the SAT (twice before Fall of senior year if possible)

* Visit www.collegeboard.com for SAT support and college selection

search

* Visit www.bridges.com for college selection search

* Meet with Mrs. Truitt to discuss your list of colleges/future plans

* Contact the Admission Office and schedule a tour of the colleges that

interest you

* Travel with NDHS on college visits to tour a college campus and experience

                                college life

* Continue to work hard to raise your GPA

* Get involved in clubs, sports, and organizations to gain experiences
